Overview of Program:
Participants will have the opportunity to explore the Israeli desert through drama, conversation, silence, and movement. They will learn about why the Jewish people were “born” in the desert and the spiritual significance it holds. There will be a variety of activities including original poetry by our guide, Yisrael Chevroni, with commentaries and text about the Exodus narrative. Each trip is built from the natural geography of the trail chosen for the group.
We also offer an outing to the desert and then an element of returning to civilization at Shuva, a moshav near Qiryat Malachi. After experiencing the soul silence of the desert, the group will transition back into life at a moshav where they will engage in workshops that connect the desert experience back to their lives. Participants will participate in activities about green building and community building that will challenge them to connect the awe of the desert into values of human and environmental relations.
Participants will:
• Explore creatively and experientially the spiritual message of the desert and its importance to the Jewish people
• Connect the participants’ experience in the desert back to their everyday lives
• Facilitate activities and discussions about green building and community building in the land of Israel
Possible Locations and Time:
There are several locations around the Negev and near the South of the Dead Sea to choose from to suit the group’s itinerary. The multi-day experience includes a visit to Shuva, a moshav near Qiryat Malachi. The time schedule of this module is flexible based on the group’s interests. We offer desert modules ranging from three hours to three days.
